Prof. Md. Akram Hossain
FRCP (Edin), MPhil, MBBS | Senior Consultant, Apollo Imperial Hospitals
Prof. Md. Akram Hossain, an MBBS graduate from Dhaka Medical College, obtained his MPhil in 1989. Currently, he is a Senior Consultant of Microbiology and Head of Laboratory Medicine at Apollo Imperial Hospitals, Bangladesh, alongside chairing the Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees. With over 30 years of academic experience, he has supervised four PhD and 39 MPhil/MD/MPH students. A Commonwealth and JICA Fellowship recipient, Prof. Hossain has authored five textbooks and published 136 research articles. He also serves as Assistant Editor for the Mymensingh Medical Journal and acts as a peer reviewer for international journals.
Dr. Lovely Barai
MBBS, FCPS, PhD | Professor & Head, Department of Microbiology, BIRDEM General Hospital, Dhaka
Dr. Lovely Barai, Professor and Head of Microbiology at BIRDEM General Hospital, Dhaka, earned her MBBS in 2001, FCPS in 2006, and PhD from Dhaka University in 2021. With extensive experience in clinical microbiology, research, and postgraduate teaching, she advances microbiological sciences in Bangladesh. Dr. Barai has authored 44 scientific publications, serves as Editor of BIRDEM Medical Journal, and coordinates the BIRDEM Antibiotic Protocol. Her research focuses on antimicrobial resistance, melioidosis, and infectious diseases. She actively mentors young researchers and holds life memberships in key professional organizations, including BCPS and BSMM.
Prof. Selina Ahmed
MBBS, MPhil (Biochemistry) | Retired Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry, Dhaka Medical College
Prof. Selina Ahmed, a retired Professor and Head of Biochemistry at Dhaka Medical College, earned her MBBS in 1982 and M.Phil in 1991. Her academic journey includes top marks at Bharateswari Homes and holy Cross College. Entering government service via the BCS Health Cadre, she spent over 32 years teaching, including positions at Rajshahi Medical College, NICVD, and NIPSOM. Post-retirement, she taught 11 years at Popular Medical College. Prof. Ahmed has guided over 40 theses, published 50+ research articles, and serves as an examiner and moderator for the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Prof. Dr. Abida Ahmed
MBBS, MPhil, MMEd | Professor & Head, Department of Physiology, US Bangla Medical College, Narayanganj
Prof. Dr. Abida Ahmed is a distinguished medical educator with over 24 years of experience teaching Physiology. She holds MBBS and MPhil degrees from Dhaka University, alongside a Masters in Medical Education. Currently serving as Professor and Head of Physiology at US Bangla Medical College, Narayanganj, she previously held senior academic positions at Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Comilla Medical Colleges. A prolific researcher, she has authored 28 peer-reviewed publications. She represented Bangladesh at international forums like the WHO-sponsored SEARAME conference and leads scientific committees, reflecting her strong commitment to advancing healthcare education.
Dr. Mahfuza Nasrin
MBBS, MPhil (Microbiology) | Associate Professor of Microbiology, Uttara Adhunik Medical College
Dr. Mahfuza Nasrin, Associate Professor of Microbiology at Uttara Adhunik Medical College, earned her MBBS in 2002 and MPhil in 2011, winning the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal. She serves as the Infection Control focal person and National AMR surveillance microbiologist. Her research spans antimicrobial resistance and biosafety, backed by international training at JIPMER, India. She has collaborated on hospital infection surveillance with NIPSOM and the US CDC. Dr. Mahfuza has authored numerous publications, contributed to national COVID-19 IPC guidelines, and is an executive member of BSMM and a founding member of IPC Alliance, Bangladesh.
Dr. Sourav Nath
MBBS, MSc (Epidemiology) | Manager of Medical Services, Apollo Imperial Hospital, Chattogram
Dr. Sourav Nath is a healthcare professional with over a decade of experience in clinical care and hospital management. He holds an MBBS degree and a Master’s in Epidemiology. Currently serving as Manager of Medical Services at Apollo Imperial Hospital, he leads quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, and institutional review processes. His research interests include healthcare quality, occupational health, digital health, and clinical governance, with multiple articles published in international journals. He is the convener of the Institutional Review Board at Apollo Imperial Hospital and actively contributes to patient safety programs and hospital performance monitoring.
Dr. Ayesha Ahmed Khan
MBBS, MPH, MPhil (Microbiology) | Assistant Professor of Microbiology, Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS), Chattogram
Dr. Ayesha Ahmed Khan is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at IAHS and an Adjunct Professor at Premier University, Chattogram. She serves as office secretary for the IAHS research cell and web editor for its medical journal. She obtained her MBBS in 2011, an MPH from CVASU in 2022, and an MPhil from Chittagong Medical College in 2024. Her research interests include public health, antimicrobial resistance, and infection control. Dr. Khan has undergone national training in medical education, presented papers at workshops, and previously worked as a research assistant at Apollo Imperial Hospitals Ltd, Chattogram.
Dr. Sultana Zahura Afrin

Prof. Dr. Rumana Alim is a highly dedicated and accomplished Professor of Microbiology at the prestigious Medical College for Women and Hospital, located in Uttara, Dhaka. With an impressive career spanning nearly three decades in medical education, she has consistently served in vital academic positions since 1995. Dr. Swarna Paul

Dr. Swarna Paul, a Medical Officer in Microbiology at Chittagong Medical College, holds an MPhil and brings over six years of academic experience. Her expertise includes antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases. She leads research on Helicobacter pylori and HPV, with advanced training in bioinformatics and genome analysis. Meanwhile, Dr. Md. Bayzid Bin Monir is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at NILMRC, Dhaka. Dr. Haque is committed to mentoring postgraduate students and actively volunteers in rural community health initiatives to support underserved populations.
